Canyon Lake Farm - About Us

Our Show Team competes throughout the year at Local, Class “A”, Regional and National level competition. It is our goal to teach riders how to become competitive and to learn to love the journey. Showing gives our riders an outlet to perform the skills that they have worked so hard to learn.

To be considered for the show team all it takes is commitment. Walk Trot riders are generally ready to compete when they can achieve the following: sitting trot, posting trot on correct diagonal and steering their mount safely around the arena. Our lesson horses and some privately owned horses are sometimes available for this first time experience.

If the show circuit interests you and you want to compete at a higher level we are here to assist you. We sometimes have quality horses available for lease or we can locate and purchase you your own!

  • Local Show – Typically these are open shows that are available to almost anyone. They are small and close by and are great to get your feet wet.
  • Class A Show – We compete with Purebred and Half-Arabian horses. This breed offers several shows throughout the year at various locations within the nearby counties. These horses are known for being extremely versatile and the shows offer classes in a variety of disciplines. Most of our riders start riding Hunter and Hunter Seat Equitation, as this is a great place to start; however, our breed also excels in Saddle Seat, Westrn and much more.
  • Regional Championship – If you have a few shows under your belt and are ready to compete at a higher level, the Regional Championships is where to go! You and your horse will compete at the Class A level to get qualified and once you do you can compete at the Regional Championships.
  • National Championship – Our breed offers a Youth National Championship (riders 18/under) show held annually that is the experience of a lifetime for many young riders. It is highly competitive yet offers a safe and fun atmosphere for your children. CLF has produced a National Champion in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012!

Showing horses is a fun and rewarding experience. I strive to teach each rider that although we all want to win, it really is the journey to the victory that makes it so great. All the hours in the saddle, the disappointing rides, the good ones, it all is part of the experience and when the student can acknowledge that – that is when they have won! Canyon Lake Farm is a competitive show barn – National Championships have been earned 5 years in a row, but it really is teaching these kids solid skills and the confidence on how to ride like a winner that is our main goal. The ribbons are the icing on the cake.
