Canyon Lake Farm - About Us

Canyon Lake Farm was opened in 2006 by Nationally titled rider, Tracy Fincher. Her goal was to introduce new riders to the wonderful Arabian breed and to create Champion horse and rider combinations. She chose to focus on equitation, proper horsemanship and giving riders a solid foundation that would last a lifetime. Tracy has a unique ability to communicate with riders of all ages and never gives up on anyone. Whether you want to overcome your fears or win a National title, Tracy and CLF are here to meet your needs. Among some of the services Tracy offers her clients at Canyon Lake Farm are private or group riding lessons, mommy and me horseback riding, and summer horse riding camp.

The Riding Academy and Training Center is located in beautiful Chino Hills, California. Nestled in the hills on a quiet street, this unique area offers the serenity you’d expect at a horse facility yet it’s close to major freeways and shopping centers.

Tracy began riding at the age of 10 and grew up riding Arabians in San Diego. She showed successfully with her horses and at age 19 she earned her first National Championship in the Open Show Hack class amongst many seasoned trainers. She attributes her success to her childhood trainer who never gave up on her and her very supportive parents.

Tracy completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in Equine Science in 2004 and has work experience as an Equine Vet Technician as well as in Equestrian Management. One of Tracy’s first students achieved a National Championship in 2008 and every year since Tracy has produced a National Winner!

My personal technique in instructing is to accentuate the positive. I find riders learn faster when they are told what they are doing right, explanations are given as to how and why something should be done and lots of positive encouragement to keep trying. I have found that regardless of the level of natural talent and ability, if riders keep working hard they will succeed! My instructor growing up never gave up on me and it took lots of hard work to achieve those big dreams I had, and I did! The skills learned both on and around the horses will help kids and adults in many ways. Children learn how to set goals, win and lose gracefully, overcome personal obstacles and much more. Riding helps adults get active again, relieve work stress and enjoy the bond with the animal. Every rider is different and that is what I love about my job!

My goal is to teach horsemanship. Every student that comes through this barn will learn how to properly handle their horse, groom, tack and ride. This is not a barn where everything is done for you. Your child will learn to work confidently around horses. SAFETY is very important to me and I stress its importance from day one. Total horsemanship is not something that can be learned in just a few lessons. Time and consistency is what produces good riders and good horsemen.
